And...the DCL's back!

I've been away for a while. I've been scheming for the full-fledged DCL website with a portfolio of designs and perhaps some scented goods ;). I also noticed that though some are grateful when you spot an error or two in their website, doing the actual 'clean-up' won't always happen...Many times more than not, that's because the development of the site is complicated or well because 'someone developed it ages ago and he has the files...and well...who could be bothered to track him down!'

But anyway, I will keep doing what I do, and hopefully it helps some!

And in the mean time, here are some images of what I've been up to. I am not only a function of a popped out eye :).

I didn't really swim with the 'fishies'.

Will be back with the things I've spotted recently online!
24 hour broom service is back - right on!!

Online House Visit_MTV Arabia

I visited the English version of MTV Arabia's site today. It's actually still in Beta (just like this site!), so I thought it might help to send over a report with whatever little things my eye could spy.

Do check out their site. They have lots of fun things going on!

Online house address: www.mtva.com
Testing criteria:
1- Functionality: 9/10
2- Cleanliness: 7/10
3- Aesthetic value: 7/10 ( I think the changing backgrounds are interesting as separate elements but many of them fight for attention with the main content).

For example, as seen below, the 'MTV Push' banner is lost somewhere between a colourful background (this background changes) and the main content area.

I'll be back for a revisit to see if my comments were helpful or not!

Revisit checkup_Carbon12dubai

It seems the changes have been made! I just visited the blog and am happy to see that the blog header isn't abruptly cut anymore and the colour issues have been addressed.

It's time to move on to another case!
Off I go with that broom!

Online House Visit_Carbon12dubai

Well, the journey has begun! I will begin to document the sites that I am visiting. There are a couple that I visited before when I was still testing the idea, and let's just say they're safe now!

Online house address: http://carbon12dubai.blogspot.com/
About: This blog is for the Dubai based art gallery, Carbon12, and was recently launched.
Main issues: Colour inconsistencies

I've sent them my report and I can only hope they address the issues!

A digital cleaning manifesto (in many words)

I first got this idea around a year ago. At the time I was working as a digital art director, and saw a fair share of clutter online. I felt there needed to be quite a cleanup, especially in the Middle East, where I am currently based.

Spurred by a love of aesthetics and the need for online feng shui, I thought of a service called Online Sukleen, in reference to the well-known Lebanese Cleaning Services company. Almost every driving Lebanese has been caught in annoying traffic because of a Sukleen truck deciding to do its cleaning business right then and there.

And that’s when The Digital Cleaning Lady showed up.
The Digital Cleaning Lady does not drive a truck.
She travels with a flying broom and yes, as you might imagine, uses that flying broom to clean your online house.

What will I be doing?

Each week, I will browse online and find one site that I think has some issues to take care of. I will address the issues by the following level of importance:

1) Functionality of the site (Can the user receive the information he needs to receive? Are there broken links?)
2) 'Cleanliness' of the site (Are there typos, legibility issues, font inconsistencies?)
3) Aesthetic value of the site (Is the site visually representative of its content? Is it appealing? How can it be improved?)

For now, my broom can only fly in the Middle East. But if I meet a merchant somewhere in the desert sands with a new broom that travels all around the world, I will be sure to let you know.

Otherwise you can expect a call from me. I will introduce myself as The Digital Cleaning Lady and kindly let you know that I've left a letter in your mailbox and that I am not an improved form of spam.

After that, it's all up to you. I can only provide cleaning tips and hope that you make those changes. Or…I can just do what I usually do, call you back in two weeks time for a check up to follow up on your progress.

If you’d like me to visit your site for a free one hour check-up, leave a letter in my mailbox, and I’ll try to fly in as soon as I can.

More advanced services are available at affordable rates upon request. Check out all my services on the right.
